Mr. James “Jay” A. Brown, 57, of Utica, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021 at his home, with his loving family by his side. James was born in Rome, NY, on January 27, 1964, the son of Howard and Gloria (VanCourt) Brown and received his education in Utica Schools. On June 29, 1991, Jay was united in marriage with Shannon Rose Johnston at Sacred Heart Church in Utica. Jay was an avid sports enthusiast, whose favorite teams included; the NY Yankees, Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Celtics and Nebraska Cornhuskers. Jay loved his dogs, Piper and Kasey, and his greatest joy was his family, and especially his cherished grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He was of the Catholic faith. Jay is survived by his beloved wife, Shannon; his four children, Jennifer and Rob Coombs of England, Jay Brown and his fiancée Alyssa Dellerba of Utica, Erin and Will Tomaino of Utica and Cassidy Brown of Utica; his cherished grandchildren, Charlie, Theo, Seth, Rhys and Landon and was the favorite uncle of several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and infant sister, Lori. In keeping with Jay’s wishes there are no calling hours. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a graveside service, Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Carr Cemetery, Route 291 in Whitesboro. Jay’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hospice and palliative Care, Inc., Dr. Atul Butala and his nurse practitioner, Tanya Marr, for the wonderful care and compassion you provided to him. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
