Mary A. Sciortino, 99, a resident of the Alpine Rehab and Nursing Center in Little Falls, NY and a life-long resident of Utica, passed away on February 19, 2022 at the nursing home. Mary was born in Utica, on September 29, 1922, the daughter of Bernard and Rose (Graziano) DeFazio. She was raised in Utica and was a 1941 graduate of Proctor High School. In 1965, Mary was united in marriage with Anthony Sciortino, a loving union of 31 years, until Anthony’s death in 1996. Mary was employed as a bookkeeper at Utica Merchandise and Paper Company for 35 years, until the company was sold to Sofco, Inc, where she continued her employment until her retirement in 1991. Mary was a member of St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church in Utica and a past member and past treasurer of the Assumption Society. Mary is survived by her sister, Jane Mercurio of Skaneateles, NY; sister-in-law, Rosemarie DeFazio of Utica, as well as many nieces, nephews and life-long friends, Mary Artessa, and the Arrigo, Gaeta and Lewis families. She was predeceased by her brother, Frank DeFazio, brother and sister-in-law, Dominick (Shirley) DeFazio; sister and brother-in-law, Frances (Robert) Lawrie; sister-in-law, Margaret Sciortino and brother-in-law, Joseph Mercurio. In keeping with Mary’s wishes, there will be no visiting hours. A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Anthony and St Agnes Church, 422 Tilden Ave., Utica, NY. She will be laid to rest with her beloved Anthony in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church or St. Peter's Church in Mary’s memory.
